Right now, most South African communities run on group chats, paper registers and notices that scroll away before anyone reads them. Important messages get buried under memes. The clubhouse gets double-booked. A late-night emergency goes to a number nobody's watching. Trustees chase every issue, booking and new resident by hand, across half a dozen apps.

None of it is anyone's fault. The tools were never built for the way a community actually lives. That's the gap — the distance between how estates run today and how they could run — and closing it is the whole reason Buurt exists.

We've spent years building software — and more than a decade serving on the boards and directorships of various estates. We don't just live in these communities; we've run them. That rare combination — hands-on knowledge of how an estate actually operates, day to day, paired with serious engineering craft — shapes every decision. We care about the details a resident feels every day — and the ones they never see: security, reliability and privacy.

We started where every honest product should — with a single community and a promise: make daily life simpler, safer and a little warmer. We earned that estate's trust one feature at a time, and hundreds of residents now open Buurt as part of their day.

We're not trying to be everywhere overnight. We're closing the gap the way it's meant to be closed — carefully, with each community we onboard teaching us how to serve the next one better. That's what better together means to us.
